Other
Much of my work walks the unpopulated crossroad of hyperrealism and minimal sculpture, conceptually orbiting the relationship between blue collar construction and art. However, this particular body of work leads to a sort of conceptual fork in the road with one path leading back to the very foundation of craftsmanship and mark making while the other continues down the unpaved road to the worksite.
“Beginning” is a drawing of my former professor David Jamieson. David introduced me to a methodical approach to drawing that laid the foundation for my current practice. He taught drawing through a scientific lens, stressing the importance of the beginning stages. His approach mirrored the jobsite; each decision was carefully calculated to allow for the additions and revisions to come. His approach reminds me that whichever path is traveled, a return to the beginning to lay the groundwork is impossible.
